Nagarjuna Reddy J writes to CJI, requests leave from today

In light of the impeachment proceedings moved against him by 61 MPs in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, it is now learnt that Justice Nagarjuna Reddy of the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad has applied to go on leave.

Justice Reddy has written letters to the Chief Justice of India TS Thakur, Acting Chief Justice of the High Court Ramesh Ranganathan, and the state Governor, requesting them to allow him to go on leave from Wednesday pending the completion of an investigation, the New Indian Express reports.

The report also states that the judge, in his letter, while seeking permission to go on leave voluntarily, has expressed faith in the judiciary and democratic system.

As reported earlier, the investigation is an outcome of allegations of nepotism and victimization of Dalits that have plagued Justice Reddy in the recent past.
